Ólöf Arnalds (8/10)
Start 20:10 / End 20:55
Ólöf Arnalds as support band is definitely a luxury situation: this talented Icelandic plays sweet melodies with her classical guitar, accompanied only by a bass. While guitar and bass are played in fingerpicking, Ólöf does whatever she wants with her voice. When she sings her songs in Icelandic – probably also because I don’t understand the lyrics – she sometimes recalls me of Sigur Ros and I feel cuddled by the call of a siren, out of space and time. Aside the music, I appreciate that, when she talks to the public, she speaks German.

Scout Niblett (9/10)
Start 21:15 / End 22:30
I have been already to a lot of concerts this year; well, so far, Scout Niblett’s gig is the one I liked the most.
Volksbühne is a perfect setting which helps Scout (Emma Louise) to create a very intimate atmosphere with the public. She starts her gig standing alone on the stage: just her and her Fender.
Scout’s music is pretty minimal, but she manages to express a so wide range of emotions, embracing melancholy, peace, irony and anger. Her songs scratch and leave a deep mark. Her voice reaches often very high pitches and Scout hits the public with her style. After a few songs, she gets the support of a second guitar and drums. In some of the songs you can see the influence of PJ Harvey and the Holes. The sound is alternatively sweet and powerful, the overall sensation is truly amazing. The trio leave the stage for the standard break before the reprise; so, the reprise is with Kiss and Hot to Death. Then Scout says goodbye, this time for real.
But we want her to get back again, for a last song. So, after a few minutes of incitations, she gets back on the stage as she started: just her and her Fender.
She gives us the chance to choose the song, and we choose Wolfie. Yes, I love this song, because it’s the first Scout’s song I’ve ever heard: it was the year 2005, I was studying in the UK and thanks to it I started knowing Scout Niblett’s music. A perfect ending for a fantastic rare concert.
